SPIRIT IS NEEDED isn't expected to have too much difficulty in defying a penalty and is preferred to Cool Strike and Sherman McCoy. The four year old gelding has now won two of his three completed starts and is definitely a horse to keep on side having made every post a winning one to score cosily at Haydock. It may have paid to race with the pace at that track but the same is often true of the Rowley Mile and he was good value for the win. Cool Strike may provide some competition for the lead but failed to run his race last time and had previously been held by Sherman McCoy who is 5lbs worse off for two lengths but progressing well. Hevelius still has the scope to make up into a decent handicapper but has run poorly the last twice as has Far From Old so plenty needs to be forgiven there although the quicker ground should help to bring about better performances from Martyr and Featherweight but they could all struggle to match Spirit Is Needed.
