There is little form to go on in a tricky maiden and a chance is taken that Willie Haggas' newcomer Waarid can come out on top, with the Mark Johnston debutant pair and Jabal Tariq the others to consider. Jabal Tariq looks set to pick up a maiden soon, after some decent efforts as a juvenile. Barry Hills' runner did well behind Campanologist last season, and on that form would take all the beating, but he appears a little one paced and may have to settle for a place again. There are no fancy entries for the Johnston duo, Maha Dubai and Greyfriarsblessing but hailing from the in form Middleham camp they command respect, and it is interesting to note that Richard Hills makes the journey north to take the ride on Maha Dubai, a son of Kingmambo out of a mare who enjoyed success on the American dirt. Greyfriarsblessing may prove a bargain at 19,000 Guineas, hailing from the family of Derby winner North Light and a half sister to prolific winners. The market may prove the best guide to this pairs' chances. With Hills on board Maha Dubai for Hamdan al Maktoum, his other runner in the field, Waarid, may be overlooked. At 90,000 guineas however he was not a cheap purchase, and has a staying pedigree out of a dam who has won over middle distances. He looks likely to appreciate every yard of the trip and as Haggas has trained a debutant winner already this season, a chance is taken that Waarid can oblige.
