RECALCITRANT is in the form of his life at present and can produce enough to land this ordinary handicap, while the big danger could prove to be Precious Citizen. The Simon Dow-trained pick has won two of his last three, both on fast ground and one of them over this trip. He has been raised 5lbs for his latest Lingfield success and is now 1lb higher than he has ever won from before, but given that he is in such good heart we'll take him to defy a wide draw and follow up. Precious Citizen has seen much less racecourse action and remains a maiden after nine starts. The drop back to 10f after failing to stay further last time looks a good move by Jeremy Gask, who has this filly heading in the right direction, though she does need to prove she handles this ground. Picot De Say won a heavy ground handicap here last month over 1m 4f and may not have the speed to follow up here, especially on this quicker going, so we will take him on. Blazing Buck looks of interest in such lowly company. Tony Carroll does well in this sort of contest, but there are ground issues to overcome for the gelding, who ran well in a seller here last time. Seventh Hill has a nice pitch and enough form on the CV to have a say in a race of this quality, but whoever the challengers are, we think that Recalcitrant can remain defiant.
