Smart Enough has gone well fresh in the past and is a tentative choice to land back-to-back wins in this tough looking handicap; The Illies, Annemasse, Flipando and Benandoner are others to bear in mind, while Docofthebay and Fremen are sure to be popular considering their recent profiles but may not represent the best value in this tougher grade of contest. Fremen has won his last two starts in good style and has to be respected in his current frame of mind. However, like a few of the others, he has struggled in handicaps off this sort of mark in the past and now has a bit to prove. Similar comments apply to Benandoner, although he should be able to gain the cover he needs in a field of this size. Richard Fahey's charge does need to post a career best effort today, though. Flipando is a standing dish in these big field handicaps and again holds solid each-way claims. He has been hard to get right in recent times, though. And a mark of 100 means he will also have to pull something out of the fire. Annemasse is from a yard going great guns and, as a consistent type, he can be expected to be in the thick of the action. He does have a bit to find with The Illies from their encounter at Ascot but is going the right way and cannot be confidently ruled out. In turn, The Illies has got his act together after a slow start to the campaign and has to rate as a big threat. However, he is now 7lb higher in the weights and the three-year-old faces a stiff test against his elders. Therefore, we take a chance with Smart Enough, who looked a smart performer when he breezed home in this last year. His trainer, Mikael Magnusson, does not have many horses in training, so it is safe to assume the Cadeaux Genereux colt has received plenty of attention during his enforced absence from the track due to a niggling problem with a hind leg. Magnusson has proved himself a capable trainer when he has the ammunition and Smart Enough is taken to reward the patience shown in him today.
