In depth

Verdict

An open maiden which can be taken by Raoul Dufy, from Westerly Air, Secluded, and Tricky Venture. The selection has been going well enough on turf and will appreciate this surface judged on his second in a claimer at Southwell last month. Rushed off his feet when tried over this trip at Nottingham on faster ground in April, he should have more chance of seeing it out now and can break his maiden tag. It is always risky opposing a relatively rare runner for Sir Michael Stoute at Wolverhampton and Westerly Air may well be good enough. However, promising though her recent Lingfield run was, that was an entirely different track and surface to this and she may just be found out here. Secluded was well beaten on debut here last week over a mile, but clearly Alec Stewart wants to give him more experience and we should see improvement, though it is unlikely to be enough to win. Meanwhile Tricky Venture looks interesting and could make the frame after fading close home on a decent Lingfield debut in March, and being given plenty of time by Roger Charlton to come to hand since. However experience can count for a lot in these races and Raoul Dufy gets the vote.
