There should be little to choose here between ESPERO and Aspro Mavro, and the better draw for the former means that he just shades the vote. Rodney Farrant's colt is 4lbs higher than when going close here in a 7f handicap last time, but there is definite room for improvement from him over this longer trip, which should suit much better. With an inside pitch also in his favour tonight can be his night. Aspro Mavro was a beaten favourite in a course and distance maiden last time when probably running to a mark similar to that of the selection. The Spartacus colt has a car park draw to overcome, but otherwise he looks an improver and would be no shock winner. Mr Udagawa has been thereabouts from similar marks in two recent handicaps but has a bit to prove on the surface, and again looks likely to find one or two too good. Illuminative is bred to have the ability to win one of these, but for tonight he looks the second string on jockey bookings and will probably have to wait for other days. Little else makes much appeal in this company from what we have seen, so Espero is the one for us.
