    Verdict

With the rain around a normally advantageous high draw may become a disadvantage and so we will chance the low-drawn CARMENERO ahead of Secret City and Fuzzy Cat. Conor Dore's charge has not won as many races as he should have however after some average runs this year he looks handicapped to strike. He has won on ground with some cut in before and the booking of Eddie Ahern catches the eye. Secret City is 5lb higher than when winning here last month but his consistency means he cannot be ignored, along with Fuzzy Cat for whom any further rain shouldn't be a concern. Compton Spirit is generally consistent and the mare is considered despite being best over five furlongs, Steel City Boy shaped with more promise here last time out, whilst ground conditions should favour Bermondsey Bob off a winnable mark. Minturno's third to Soto at Catterick was a bounce back to form, whilst Charles Darwin is a course and distance winner and is another who comes into the race in good form. Memphis Man needs a market check as he is handicapped to run up a sequence and he handles soft ground well. An open sprint then, where the tentative vote is given to Carmenero.
