With Mubeen not a guaranteed stayer it should pay to side with Flight Of Esteem ahead of Telemachus and Goodwood winner Joe Bear. The selection won last time out at Sandown and although not looking too convincing on that occasion he should still be too strong for his rivals with the underrated Willie Supple aboard. In that Sandown win he only looked to be getting the hang of things in the closing stages and the uphill Newmarket finish should concentrate his mind. Telemachus was impressive in a slowly run race at Chester last time out but in that affair he was allowed to dominate from the front and it is unlikely he will get things his own way here. Mubeen was all out to win last time out over a mile and although he has run well over this distance in the past the suspicion is he is better over a mile. Joe Bear did nothing wrong when scoring at Goodwood in June over this sort of trip. Given a nice break he should be ready for action but this course is not expected to suit and his trainer has a woeful record at this track. Flight Of Esteem is the call then with Telemachus to fill the runners-up spot.
