          Verdict

          Desert Opal may prove the answer to a competitive handicap while others to consider include Craiova, King's County and Finished Article. John Gosden's colt comes here on a hat-trick bid after comfortable wins at Newbury and Haydock and, with ground conditions in his favour, this progressive type should make a bold bid under Richard Hughes. Craiova has been well placed to win on three occasions this year and has solid claims if able to reproduce his close second on rain-softened ground at Ascot in July. Certain Justice is another who will appreciate the give in the ground but remains 5lb higher than his previous win here last season. King's County ended a long losing sequence when scoring over course and distance last time and has to be feared off his current mark but Finished Article looks high enough in the weights at present and ran well below his best last time.
