Briscoe Place can successfully carry a penalty to beat the likes of Resplendent Star, Cunning Pursuit, and the Chapman pair Dalriath and Siegfrieds Night. Briscoe Place looks a fast improving sort based on his effortless chase debut victory at Worcester under Tony McCoy at the start of the month. Jonjo O'Neill's charge only made his racecourse debut last September, when successful in a bumper, also at Worcester and was a little unlucky not to win over hurdles. He is quickly making up for lost time though, and a penalty should not stop him here. Resplendent Star has had a couple of promising spins over fences during his career but does not have the same scope as the selection, while Cunning Pursuit has yet to jump a fence in public. Dalriath battled hard to beat Marrel on softer ground at Cartmel at the end of last month, and his stablemate Siegfrieds Night posted a fair winning effort over timber at Southwell last week and now tries his hand over the bigger obstacles. They could all run well, but Briscoe Place has already proved himself and can pay to follow.
