Verdict

Notable Guest showed that he still retains ability when just touched off in a Group 3 race at Haydock last time and Sir Michael Stoute's five-year-old has to be respected but he may struggle to give weight away to Crosspeace, who gets the vote with Kandidate rated the best of the rest. The selection probably found the ground too testing in France last time but had shown progressive form prior to that and looks to have been found an ideal opportunity to resume winning ways here. Self Defense is a capable performer on his day but looks booked for a place at best, while the lightly raced Play Me needs to improve on all known form to trouble the judge. Bravo Maestro looks to be out of his depth and a bigger threat is likely to come from Clive Brittain's Kandidate, although he has yet to prove that he stays this far. That is not a problem for Crosspeace though and he gets the vote.
