        Verdict

        There will probably be better maidens than this at Hamilton this season, but nonetheless there is still a betting opportunity here with ORIENTAL CAT, while Elmfield Giant and Omaruru are also given the once over. The selection was doing all his best work at the finish of his Doncaster debut last season and has not been seen since. This step-up in trip should help elicit plenty of improvement, while the ground should be no problem, and we will side with him. Elmfield Giant is kept to maiden company after four starts in this sphere. He showed promise on his last two starts in August and pedigree suggests that he will do better at three, so he is respected. Omaruru had two quck runs in March, improving for his first outing. He tries turf for the first time and, while he should be fine on good ground, he would probably be better if the rains came. Smarty Sam looks best of the rest, but preference is for Oriental Cat.
