Arlene Phillips missed an engagement earlier in the week and needs a market check however AL QEDDAAF has shown plenty of promise and is preferred to the 75-rated Defector. The William Haggas-trained selection was very green on his debut and never got competitive, but on his second start at Doncaster he ran a blinder behind Dynamo Dane. He evidently has no problem with soft ground if the track gets more rain and the step up in trip looks sure to suit this well-related son of Alhaarth. Stablemate Sir Isaac is open to improvement after just one start, a comment that also applies to the late-maturing Farncombe who wasn't disgraced on her Newbury debut earlier in the month. Newcomer Perfect Street represents a yard that have started the season quite brightly, whilst Mabuya is a potential improver and his run here in October showed that he handles the track ok. Defector ran well in handicap company last time out and now steps back up in trip for this return to maiden company. He has ability but his best efforts have come over six furlongs on quick ground. This looks a good opportunity for Al Qeddaaf to oblige.
