Verdict
In many ways CONFRONT is a reluctant suggestion but we have decided to put him forwards ahead of Foolin Myself and Ramona Chase who could show up well at a big price. Jamie Spencer would have struggled to do the weight on Michael Bell's charge who was made favourite at Newbury when having his first run since beating Tartan Bearer in a maiden in 2007. He's entitled to be better for the outing although the spectre of the bounce factor raises its head. He's one of a handful of runners in the field that are open to marked improvement and the top-weight is another after just four starts. The four winners of this race since its inception have remarkably carried either 8-10 or 8-11 which is a measure of the task facing the Stoute runner. However, Confront was favourite to win the Greenham just over a year ago and, although he has something to prove now, it's worth taking the chance that he can come good and get the better of a field of fairly exposed handicappers. Proponent won the race last year, Flipando is in top form but a strong pace could stretch his stamina, Road To Love has been given a chance by the handicapper whilst Ezdiyaad and Deep Winter are not without claims. Ramona Chase wasn't able to take the next step and was tried over hurdles this winter but he appears to have retained his ability judged by his penultimate start and he ran better than his finishing position at Epsom suggests. He's got plenty of form in similar contests to his name and could make the frame at a price but we'd hope to see Confront mark himself down as a Pattern race winner in waiting.
