In depth

Verdict

START ROYAL is our call with Lisadell King and Gun Smith the alternatives. Alan Hill's charge has been a winner of five races on the spin and won unchallenged at Cottenham on his latest start. He is in the right hands to make a bold fist of it at this level. Lisadell King was desperately disappointing when sent off as favourite at Leicester. Put simply, he didn't travel with any fluency and it is to be hoped that this were merely a bad day at the office. Gun Smith was modest when trained under rules by Jonjo O'Neill. He seems to have been energised by a switch to life between the flags. Divine Intavention has to be respected on the basis of a victory in a Larkhill point. Star Double was well held in his latest start over course-and-distance, folding tamely having made the running. Start Royal has a progressive profile and seems the most likely scorer on paper.
