Verdict

A cracking stayers' contest for us to get involved with and the principals look to be Enjoy The Moment, Gallileo Figaro, Newnham, Thewhirlingdervish and Dr Sharp and the vote goes to Thewhirlingdervish. Tim Easterby's charge relishes these extreme trips and bags of stamina, as evidenced by four wins at Pontefract, three at this trip. He races here from 2lb higher than his best winning mark and he handles any ground, so he gets the nod. Enjoy The Moment finished down the field behind the selection at Ascot last time but did not have the race run to suit and if the pace is stronger here then he will definitely be a threat despite his high racing weight. Gallilel Figaro just sneaks in here after a 5lb rise for two recent wins in lesser company, but would probably prefer plenty of cut. Newnham is very good on the polytrack and would be a leading player if this were at Kempton but the fact that he has never won on turf, even though he has notoften been tried, is slightly offputting. Dr Sharp comes from a shrewd yard and if the rains come the chances of this c&d scorer would be enhanced, while Inchnadamph won cosily at Catterick but will have to improve to follow up. A really interesting race then and the suggestion is Thewhirlingdervish.
