African Rose, Utmost Respect and US Ranger catch the eye in a wide open Sprint Cup, with AFRICAN ROSE taken to maintain her improvement and ensure this Group One prize. US Ranger has the plum draw, nearest the stands' rail, and his effort when just touched off in the July Cup suggests he is far from a spent force. Although that was on good ground, he has won on a testing surface though he is attempting to end a winless run that stretches to almost a year. Utmost Respect has a formidable record when the ground is soft or worse, having tasted his only defeat in such ground when fourth in a Group One at Deauville last time. He was short of room at a key stage on that occasion and it would be no surprise to see him go close - he will certainly be well supported by the Yorkshire crowd. African Rose, a three-year-old filly, is one of the most inexperienced runners in the field, but she ran a career best in that Deauville contest, leading a furlong out in the soft ground before being run out of it in the closing stages. This shorter trip looks to be no handicap, and although that Deauville run was a significant improvement on what she had shown previously, African Rose can lead them home.
