Verdict

An interesting little maiden where AFKAR is selected to get the better of Cafe Elektric and Sarandjam. The last-named is trained by Mick Channon and has had two starts to date, showing a bit more spark second time at Ripon than on his Goodwood introduction. These conditions suit but he is fast building up a profile of one to consider more strongly in handicaps. Cafe Elektric has to be strongly considered on pedigree, being out of Shanghai Lily, who won both her starts as a juvenile over 6f and 7f, and a half-sister to two other two-year-old scorers. The market will provide us with some idea as to his chance, and with Sir Mark Prescott's runners not yet fully firing, we will just take him on this time. Joe Junior will surely come of plenty for his debut, and he will need to, and the same applies to Moorland Boy. Both of those may be vulnerable to our pick Afkar. Clive Brittain's colt is also related to winning juvenile stock and has increased in price at the sales, offering further encouragement. The ground should suit and with the yard in decent shape we will side with him.
