In depth

Verdict

Orange River has run with credit on both starts so far but John Gosden's filly may do better on a softer surface so she looks best watched and a better bet looks to be MADAM PRESIDENT, who gets the vote with Beauchamp Wonder rated the best of the rest. The selection ran a promising race on her debut at Windsor and while Walter Swinburn's filly was subsequently disappointing on her second start at the same venue, that was on a softer surface and she should do better back on faster ground today. Basanti has run well on a couple of occasions but has disappointed more than once and it is hard to back the Barry Hills-trained filly with any confidence after those outings. Sayyedati Symphony has, like most of Clive Brittain's runners, been highly tried and of more interest may be Gerard Butler's lightly raced Beauchamp Wonder, who should appreciate the drop back in trip today. Madam President has solid claims on her debut outing though and gets the vote in the hope that she can reproduce that showing today.
