Eagle Mountain can put his older rivals in the shade, with Stage Gift, Take A Bow, Winged Cupid and Charlie Tokyo likely to play for the places. Having been placed in both the English and Irish Derbys this season, Eagle Mountain had no luck at all in the Grand Prix de Paris when rider Kieren Fallon was dumped to the turf in scrimmaging. The son of Rock Of Gibraltar sustained a cut during that race, but has obviously recovered to take his chance here. With his ability to handle today's conditions not in doubt, he sets the standard for his older rivals to aim at. Stage Gift won the Darley Stakes for Sir Michael Stoute last season, and opened his account for Godolphin in a Group 3 at Longchamp in June. A bit of improvement is needed, but he makes more appeal than stablemate Winged Cupid. Take A Bow is not out of place in this line-up, while Charlie Tokyo is being aimed high, but he will always carry big weights in handicaps now, so connections have more or less been forced to raise the bar. Eagle Mountain has conditions to suit, and can make the most of the age allowance as well to gain a thoroughly deserved victory.
