Bencoolen ran better than was expected at Ripon last month and he has claims racing off the same mark today but it is hard to get away from DISTANT MEMORIES, who can confirm the promise of his recent reappearance run at Pontefract and he gets the vote over Dream Lodge. Richard Fahey's gelding was well held in a group 3 race at Haydock last time but is not badly treated back in a handicap now so has to be respected. Gerard Butler's Elliptical has been running consistently well but the handicapper has taken note and of more interest may be Mark Johnston's Opus Maximus, who has only been raised 2lbs for his win at Ffos Las last month. Richard Hannon's Oratory disappointed in the Victoria Cup last month but that is a contest that normally works out well, while Jeremy Noseda's Royal Destination has not been seen since running down the field in the Cambridgeshire. Several of these have place claims but for the winner, it is hard to oppose Tom Tate's Distant Memories, who was narrowly beaten by Albaqaa at Pontefract on his reappearance and he can go one better off just a 1lb higher mark today.
