Sergeant Cecil gained a deserved first success of the season when landing the Lonsdale Cup at the Ebor meeting here last month and is taken to confirm running that day with Tungsten Strike, Baddam, Kasthari and Winged d'Argent with the biggest threat looking to come from Alcazar. The last mentioned goes well when fresh so lack of a recent run need not be of concern although any further drying of the ground would be for a horse that wants plenty of juice in the ground. Souvenance has yet to prove his stamina for this trip and is difficult to evaluate having been campaigned abroad since winning at Ayr over a year ago. Irish raider Clara Allen is another that is difficult to weigh up and of more interest may be dual royal winner Baddam, who should appreciate this longer trip than in the Lonsdale last time. Tungsten Strike is better than his showing at the Ebor meeting would suggest but it is hard to see him reversing running with Sergeant Cecil who again has an obvious chance in this company and is taken to win again.
