    Verdict

Maddie's A Gem has been knocking at the door, and is fancied to get her head in front in this moderate maiden, with Calendar Girl and October Moon the main dangers. The latter would have excellent claims on her third to Leporello at Lingfield in June but failed to live up to that on her only subsequent outing at this course, and has a fairly lengthy absence to overcome. Calendar Girl ran on nicely when third on her debut at Kempton, and while she probably has to improve on that, the extra furlong here seems sure to suit. However, Maddie's A Gem comes here on the back of a couple of decent efforts and John Jenkins' filly looks worth supporting. She was making her handicap debut when second off a mark of 66 at Doncaster last time, should appreciate this extra furlong and a reproduction of that performance ought to be good enough.
