York Cliff, unsuited by the slow gallop in a race here on Monday, can land this seller at the expense of Southern Shore and Activist. Mark Brisbourne, leading trainer at the track, supplied four runners in the 0-55 handicap and York Cliff went off the favourite, but the early crawl countered against the son of Marju and the event developed into a two-furlong sprint. It was to his credit that York Cliff managed to finished fourth to a bang in-form rival in Little Richard. Robert Winston takes over from the holidaying Eddie Ahern and, with a drop in class and an expected better gallop, York Cliff looks one of the better bets on the card. One, though, that deserves a second glance is Dai Burchell's Southern Shore. HIs form shown on the level is hardly awe-inspiring - a distant 10th of 16th in a handicap at Folkestone - but the 4-y-o has won a hurdle event and finished a respectable sixth to Dishdasha in a novice event at Huntingdon. His ability to act on the all-weather has to be taken on trust but he looks the main danger. Activist, trained by Declan Carroll, shown a glimmer of promise in an Amateur Riders' event, but his record of just one victory in 18 starts (0 from 4 on the all-weather) tempers enthusiasm, while the poor recent form of Tony Carroll's yard poses a question mark over Ambersong, absent from the flat for 340 days and who showed little in a recent spin over hurdles. The same worry applies to Ron Harris' yard, whose representative is Bella Pavlina. The mare won back in May but has shown very little in two recent starts. Even though this is a seller a confident vote is given to York Cliff.
