David Myerscough's Miss Minnies has shown decent form of late with wins at Dundalk and Kempton in her last two starts but a 6lb penalty for her latest success will make completing a hat-trick difficult for the three-year-old on this slower surface and a safer option looks to be BALATA, who is chosen ahead of Mark of Meydan. A winner at Newcastle in June, the Michael Dods-trained gelding is only 5lbs higher than at Newcastle today and ran well off this mark when a close third over course and distance last time so he should again be thereabouts. Bryan Smart's Captain Macarry has gone better in recent starts on turf but has paid the penalty at the hands of the handicapper for those outings and is likely to struggle racing off a mark 7lbs higher than when successful here in February. Tim Easterby's Malcheek showed improved form at Thirsk last time and he has to be respected but a 3lb rise for that effort makes this tougher for him. Kevin Ryan's Kloof is less exposed than most of these after just five starts so has to be considered, while Arthur's Edge has struggled since winning at Chepstow in July but may appreciate the return to the Polytrack having won here three times previously. Preference though is for Rod Millman's Balata, who was good value for his win at Leicester at the beginning of the month and he is taken to follow up off a 6lb higher mark today.
