TOURNEDOS stands out at the weights here and gets the vote ahead of Obe Gold, Bertie Southstreet and Charles Parnell. Dandy Nicholls saddles the selection and likely favourite, who is at least 12lbs better off with each of his opponents here than if this were a handicap, and that is going to take some finding. This is much easier than the York handicap that he won from a mark of 92 less than 18 months ago, and while he has not won in three tries on artificial surfaces, nor over this trip just yet, he has had few tries on both counts and his class can see him home in front. Charles Parnell doesn't win too often, and both his wins away from turf have come on the Fibresand, though they were over this trip and from at least 10lbs higher, so he still needs to be respected here. Bertie Southstreet chases a hat-trick of course and distance wins but has 20lbs to find with the selection and although he can finish much closer than that would suggest, given his love of the place, it is still hard to see him being good enough at these weights. The same applies to Newcastle scorer Rio Sands, while Obe Gold looks a more serious danger. Although he has those 12lbs to find with our pick, he is probably just a little better than his current mark makes out and he races over his optimum trip, so if he can overcome a stinker of a draw then he could play a lead role. Tournedos should be the one today.
