All things considered, the short list consists of Carcinetto, Tanforan, Charlie Delta and Middle Eastern, with the selection being Charlie Delta. The only course and distance winner in the line-up, Carcinetto returns to the all-weather for the first time since April, when he ran pretty well from today's rating. Much as he is six pounds above a course and distance winning mark, he is not ruled out of bagging some money. Sporting cheekpieces for only the second time, Tanforan holds fair claims based on his November all-weather form and the handicapper is certainly relenting with him now. Charlie Delta is wearing a visor for the first time today and this could prove to be a decisive factor. He has won from higher marks on Turf and the all-weather (that latter win coming at Southwell) and his mark looks pretty fair in the context of this race. Middle Eastern has to get a mention as he is fairly closely-weighted with the selection based on the Southwell race referred to. On this occasion, though, we give the nod to Carcinetto.
