Walter Swinburn's Shifting Star has been running consistently well and should be thereabouts again but he seems a shade high in the weights at present so looks booked for a place at best in a race taken to go to WILDCAT WIZARD, who gets the verdict ahead of Thebes. Mark Johnston's gelding only went down by half-a-length behind Tropical Paradise at Goodwood recently and has obvious claims off just a 2lb higher mark today. Brian Meehan's Cockney Class is lightly raced and has every chance racing off just a 5lb higher mark than when scoring at Newmarket on his handicap debut last month, while Iver Bridge Lad showed improved form at York last time but seems too high in the handicap now. Richard Hannon's Edge Closer had little chance behind Laddies Poker Two in the Wokingham, while Golden Desert was also beaten at Ascot but both ran well there in finishing eighth and fifth respectively and have to be considered. Henry Candy's Signor Peltro was narrowly beaten at Goodwood last time and is another to consider in a competitive event in which marginal preference is for Wildcat Wizard. Paul Cole's gelding deserves to get his head in front having been placed in each of his last two starts at Ascot and Newbury and he can make the most of his good draw in stall 16.
