      Verdict

Baylini may have to settle for minor honours once more behind HAZZARD COUNTY, although in Kilburn and Piccolo Mondo he faces stiff opposition. David Simcock's charge has only a Polytrack maiden to his name but promised to win a race on turf when second last time. That was over today's trip at Ffos Las on quick ground but previous placed efforts on ground with cut suggest that he can cope whichever way the weather goes and a pound rise in the weights for that narrow defeat shouldn't stop him going close. Kilburn beat Bomber Command at Goodwood last time and although the revised ratings put them close together the former was well on top at the line and can be expected to confirm the form with a big run. A 6lb rise makes life tougher though and with softening conditions a concern he's worth taking on until returned to Goodwood where he's two from three. Piccolo Mondo has gone close on more than one occasion, including here, so must be considered down to the lowest mark he's raced from in a handicap. Jim Crowley rides the course well and connections reach for the cheek-pieces, so it wouldn't be a surprise were he to improve enough to score following a fair fourth last time out. Baylini wasn't beaten far in a course and distance race last time and goes well for this rider, so from the same mark she's of obvious interest. That said the mare is now 20 starts without a win on turf and on that stat alone is opposable for win-only players. Final Drive is another proving to be more effective on artificial surfaces so a bigger threat may emerge from Ela Gorrie Mou, who should leave her latest run behind now returned to turf. She ran a grand race at Warwick prior to that and this step up to a mile will help to negate the 1lb rise although she will want rain. There are several with chances in this contest but Hazzard County should go close to getting off the mark on turf and gets our vote to do so.
