mid-division, soon ridden along, edged left when weakening approaching final furlong
chased leaders, effort when outpaced 2f out, ran on final furlong
prominent, driven over 1f out, chased winner final furlong
made all, shaken up over 1f out, pushed out final furlong
mid-division, effort halfway, no impression
reared at start, always behind
towards rear, never a factor
mid-division, effort when hung left halfway, soon beaten
slowly into stride, always rear division
in touch, ridden along halfway, weakened final furlong
Charles Dickens is a well-bred newcomer from Mark Johnston's stable but the yard's youngsters invariably improve for their first outing so he may be best watched and preference is for the experience of Wotatomboy, with Mayorstone rated the pick of the remainder. The selection stepped up on the form of his debut effort at Catterick when chasing home Sloop Johnb at Carlisle last month and a reproduction of that effort may well suffice for Richard Whitaker's filly today. Mick Channon's Mesyaal has shown a decent level of form but he has not progressed as much as may have been anticipated and looks best watched at present. Howard Johnson's Lucky Art needs to improve on all known form and of more interest may be Bryan Smart's newcomer Mayorstone, who is bred to be useful and comes from a yard that is more than capable of readying one first time out. There are a couple of interesting newcomers in the field but Wotatomboy showed decent form last time and is taken to open her account.
