Hula Ballew has not always been the easiest to win with but the Michael Dods-trained mare has been in good form this term winning her second race of the season when successful at Ripon last month but a 6lb rise for that makes life tougher and a better bet looks to be Osteopathic Remedy, who is preferred to Esoterica. The last mentioned has been a model of consistency this term and comes into this having won his last two starts but Jim Goldie's gelding is probably better over seven furlongs than a mile and so he may be best watched. Abbondanza has run over seven furlongs in two starts since landing a mile handicap at Musselburgh in May and may do better now back up in trip. Giles Bravery's recent Beverley winner Bustan is not without a chance of following up that success off just a 3lb higher mark today but preference is for Osteopathic Remedy. The four-year-old has been in great form for Michael Dods this term, winning his last three starts, latterly in good fashion at Carlisle, and he is taken to defy the 6lb rise for that success.
