Mirant can defy topweight at the expense of Moon Catcher, Nocturnally and Maclean. Mirant was a decent sort three seasons ago, and has had just the two runs this year, the last of which was in January. He lines up fresher than most and will handle the ground, so gets a tentative vote. Moon Catcher was driven out to score at Aintree just eight days ago, showing improved form in the process and should make her presence felt, while Nocturnally is still a maiden but is going the right way and should be placed to good effect over a trip soon. Maclean hails from a stable that is in form on the Flat as well as over jumps and is therefore another to consider along with Before The Mast who has more ability than he has shown so far. The market may well prove to be an invaluable guide in a race of this nature, but we return to Mirant as the answer.
