Chjimes has the class and experience to land the first ever race at 'new Ascot', and is the pick over King's Bastion, La Neige and newcomer The Old Fella. Chjimes had by all accounts been working like a good thing before duly making a winning debut at Nottingham in April, and was then sent over to The Curragh to contest the first Listed race of the season. Not disgraced in going down by a head to the favourite Drayton, with Aidan O'Brien's Abraham Lincoln in arrears, he must surely take all the beating today with conditions very much in his favour. King's Bastion created a favourable impression when opening his account at Lingfield a fortnight ago, as he still looked far from the finished article, so has to be respected, while La Neige won his maiden in soft ground at Nottingham with the minimum of fuss, but the form looks inferior to that of the selection. Richard Hannon's pair should be noted in the market, with our preference for The Old Fella, the mount of Ryan Moore. However, it is Chjimes that sets the standard and he is the one to beat.
