Farthing made a pleasing debut at Yarmouth and looks likely to improve to take this maiden, with Piper's Ash and Edge Of Blue obvious dangers. The selection did not look at her peak in the paddock before that racecourse introduction, making her progress on the track all the more eyecatching, and her second to Smiddy Hill can be built on positively here on ground again likely to be on the fast side of good. Piper's Ash drops to the minimum trip, having been beaten four lengths into sixth in a decent fillies' maiden at Newbury on debut. With a better start here she could go well, though it is a slight concern that she is bred to do better over six furlongs than this quick five here at Sandown. Of the remainder, Edge Of Blue is one to consider. The draw against the far rail will help and we would expect Richard Hannon's colt to have learned plenty about the game since a ponderous debut, though he is another dropping back in trip and one wonders if that is a good thing. All in all, the percentage selection here is Farthing, who will hopefully make us a few.
