In depth

Verdict

This could prove to be a smart maiden and HIGH TWELVE is taken to land it with Guidecca Ten and Corsica put up as the alternatives. John Gosden's charge finished second to the well regarded, Cadley Road, on debut, and while his presence has led to the field cutting up significantly from the early declaration stage, he can do no more than beat what is put up in front of him. Guidecca Ten is related to a number of Italian middle distance performers. He cost 45,000 guineas at the sales and his trainer has a 16% strike rate with his juveniles at present. Corsica hails from a family that includes the high-class juvenile sprinter, CD Europe. It is a long way to come from Middleham for just the fresh air so the market is watched despite this being a first run for the Mark Johnston charge. Jibrrya is a son of Motivator and he cost an eye watering 140,000 guineas at the sales. His sire's first crop has been largely disappointing. Valiant Knight was easy to back on debut and may be one to note with next year in mind. High Twelve can confirm the promise of his debut.
