In depth

Verdict

The Grey One can throw in the odd stinker but he still looks the pick of this motley crew. Anduril and Tidy make it to the shortlist. He is yet to win in 17 starts on the turf which does temper enthusiasm somewhat, however he has run well in defeat (most notably most recently at Goodwood). He ran well on soft ground at Warwick in 2006 so today's ground shouldn't be an inconvenience if it stays wet, and with the stables horses running well in defeat of late, he can provide a welcome tonic. Moonstreaker has claims if building on his recent run when well-held however he is another that is better on the all-weather, whilst Tidy, Apache Nation and Azreme are all on winning marks. Anduril will have no problems with this ground and as the best horse in the race he deserves respect. The added fact that he is now 2lbs below his highest winning mark adds further fuel to the fire, however The Grey One ran well last time out and a repeat of that may be enough to score today.
