        Verdict

        An unappealing claimer in which Novestar is taken to see off Ogre and Hurstpierpoint. The colt is probably handicapped to the hilt these days so it was no surprise to see connections taking this route. He acts on the surface albeit at a moderate pace. Ogre didn't demonstrate a lot on turf in her earlier career. If she can translate her improvement on the artifical surfaces, she could be a big player. Hurstpierpoint is respected from the Richard Fahey stable. A 14-race maiden, he has posted four near misses. Silver Spruce is tried in first time headgear. Red Rouge is quickly dropped to the basement level having been well turned over in maidens. Marlena ran a stinker on seasonal reappearance and put simply, has to do much better. Sabre Light shaped with some abililty for Gary Moore last season. Paul Midgley hopes that the application of cheekpieces can work the oracle. There won't be too many claims in the boxes for this lot but Novestar has the best form of those to take their chances.
