BID FOR GOLD has an edge on the form book if we go via Avontuur and in a tricky race he can get back to winning ways. Jedd O'Keefe's course and distance winner has six wins to his name, the most recent being a beating of Avontuur at Carlisle. He has a 4lb higher mark to race from today but the ground was too soft at Pontefract last time and he is rated a lot better than that run. Avontuur re-opposes today following a Newcastle win last time, beating Incomparable into second and John Keats into third. A 6lb penalty makes life tough for Ruth Carr's gelding. Just Sam loves this place and has got the hang of things of late; if we ignore his Newcastle flop then this mark of 65 doesn't look a barrier. Tangerine Trees has been in fine form north of the border of late. Three Hamilton wins have resulted in a 10lb rise in the handicap but it may be the quicker track that finds him out rather than the rise in the weights. Luminous Gold's consistency means that Chris Wall's filly needs consideration especially as her trainer doesn't send too many to the track. A cracking sprint handicap in which we tentatively side with Bid For Gold.
