C'MON YOU IRONS has found a rich vein of form and can continue that here at the main expense of Bid For Gold, while Commando Scott is respected. The selection has won back-to-back fast ground Windsor handicaps over this trip in the last month, and comes here without a penalty for the latter, given that it was an apprentices' contest. This time Ian Mongan is up, the partnership have a plumb draw from stall three, and they can take advantage of that same mark to score again. A further plus is the gelding's ability to handle softer ground if the rains come. Bid For Gold is an obvious danger as a fellow hat-trick seeker. Clearly it would not be a huge upset if he were to win, but a 4lbs rise for winning a short head at Carlisle last time will make this tougher, even with is pilot's allowance. Commando Scott has been brought along very patiently by Ian McInnes in five runs this season, after a lengthy absence which encompassed 18 months. That approach almost paid off at Wolverhampton last time, and if the rains come here then he must be serious short-list material as one who relishes cut and stays at least this far. Dickie Le Davoir is consistent and adaptable as far as the going is concerned. He also likes it here, and if at his best he could make them all go. Poppy's Rose is another McInnes inmate who is below the mark of her last win, although that came around two years ago. She too acts on most ground and with the yard doing well she can get involved. Wiltshire finds winning difficult, and Labisa appears to want genuine quick ground, so may not be suited by conditions, so we'll side with C'mon You Irons to complete a hat-trick.
