Imperial Gain gets the vote over Valentino Swing, with Mary Delaney and Good Companion others in with a chance. The first of eight races looks quite competitive, but hopefully Imperial Gain will improve for his eye catching return at Lingfield last month to open his account. Walter Swinburn's gelding was settled in the rear on that first outing since last October, but fairly flew in the straight to finish fourth behind Garstang, and although another furlong would not come amiss, he should make a bold bid. Valentino Swing was plumb last of 17 on his return at Bath in April, but scored three times last term and should be given a chance to prove that he has trained on. Mary Delaney was just two places ahead of him last time and that must have disappointed trainer Mark Wallace who really rates the filly. She too is probably better than that effort and is another for the short-list based on previous efforts, while Good Companion did not seem to stay when tried over seven furlongs at Lingfield and may have a future as a sprinter, albeit at a modest level. A hard one to call can see Imperial Gain go close at least.
