Cutting Crew, Esthlos and Kings Quay form the shortlist in a competitive finale and the vote is given to Cutting Crew. The selection was a fair fourth behind Malt Or Mash last time over this course and distance in a race that has worked out well. He is still open to plenty of improvement and as he has run well with cut in the ground in the past he looks to have solid claims here. Esthlos looks the obvious danger as he won well last time at York when beating Sporting Gesture, and as he is unpenalised for that success today he has to enter calculations. However, he was behind our selection on his previous outing here and on that basis he is passed over. Kings Quay won over hurdles when last seen out and the more juice in the ground the better for him. Barry Hills has won this race twice in the last nine years so Dubai Twilight is another that is entitled to respect. However we prefer the claims of Cutting Crew and he gets the pick.
