PYRRHA is selected ahead of Appraisal and Magaling. This sales race always attracts a quality field and the cream usually rises to the top. Effort and Smokey Storm have some of the best form in the book but both have a little bit to prove after some less than inspiring efforts and are passed over in favour of some less exposed runners. Richard Hannon's runners in these events command respect and Appraisal posted an improved performance to get the better of the heavily backed Roman Glory at Goodwood last time. He did get the run of the race there and does drop back in trip today but he's clearly progressing well and has to be on the short-list. Magaling still holds an entry for the Dewhurst despite having taken a few attempts to get off the mark. He did show a decent level of form in defeat and may yet prove capable of better but his victory at Yarmouth wasn't visually impressive. Ballyalla enters calculations and Park Lane may fair well but the suggestion here is Pyrrha. She was asked to contest a Group 3 on her third outing having run out an impressive winner of her second start and that performance saw her sent off to the fore of the market. She trailed in nearer last than first but a line can be put through the run as her pilot looked after her once serious interference had put paid to her chance. Chris Wall knows what's required in this contest as his only previous runner was a filly who finished a close third at 33-1. Her low draw could be to her advantage, she gets plenty of weight from some of the leading fancies and she has plenty of ability which makes Pyrrha worthy of an each-way interest.
