Glasshoughton is taken to land the spoils with Compton Classic and The Nifty Fox sought as the plausible alternatives. The selection is far from the most stylish of individuals but he is honest and resolute and while not doing anything spectacularly, it means the handicapper has less chance to grab him than most. Compton Classic needs a strong run five furlongs to be at his best. Gary Bartley got a fine tune out of him on Monday and he is given another chance to shine on Saturday. The Nifty Fox can handle today's conditions but would not be particularly well served in the event of hock deep going. La Vecchia Scuola was a wise claim by the Johnson clan and should not be discounted from the bottom of the weights. Strensall is difficult to catch right while Pieter Brugehel is frustration personified. A good race to watch and punt and in the latter case, we recommend Glasshoughton.
