Verdict

Those with experience such as Hollyhocks and Press Release will probably be popular here, but we will take them on with debutant EXCEL BOLT. Bryan Smart's colt is out of 5f winner at two, who was a sister to a dual juvenile winner, and so his pedigree looks very positive. The ground should not be a problem and we will take a chance on him with Paul Hanagan up. Hollyhocks is likely to improve for a nice spin at Hamilton earlier in the month, and with the yard going well enough she is likely to be a threat. The same goes for Press Release, who is tongue-tied for the first time today and failed to handle the track at Chester last time, making that form perhaps worse than his probable ability. On this nice straight course he should be able to do better. Calypso Magic is another whose pedigree suggests that a good debut could be on the cards, though preference today is for Excel Bolt.
