An interesting amateurs' contest to begin proceedings and Kyber may provide us with a win, while Atlantic Gamble, Thorny Mandate and Rudry World are others to be considered. The Jim Goldie-trained selection has been in decent form this year and loves this track, having posted wins in both a hurdle and a two mile flat race since February. This trip looks ideal and he won't mind if the ground continues to dry, and as he is now back on his last winning mark it looks a good opportunity. Atlantic Gamble carries top weight and was a soft ground claimer winner at Leicester a couple of weeks ago. He is now 19lb higher than when beginning a winning run off four off the reel earlier in the year, but in handicap company he probably just has too much weight at the moment. Thorny Mandate will be popular after winning last time at Wolverhampton, but a 6lb penalty means he needs a lifetime best now and on that basis we oppose. There were no obvious excuses for the defeat of Rudry World last time but he has won a couple over 12f and is relatively consistent, so he can't be ruled out, but Kyber has the most solid credentials on offer and gets the vote.
