POPPY SEED can get the better of Praesepe and Blackdown Boy. The meteorological conditions have reportedly resulted in a bumper crop of poppies this summer and Poppy Seed certainly looks ready to blossom following an improved performance at Newbury last time when making a red-hot favourite pull out all the stops. The winner has gone on to run well in a handicap from a mark of 85 so the form is well above average and Poppy Seed should be hard to beat on that evidence. Praesepe has attracted plenty of support on both starts but that may have as much to do with her relatives (she is sister to the smart and speedy Enticing) as anything that she has shown at home or on the track. It's far too soon to be writing her off but she does need to improve in order to get the better of the selection. Blackdown Boy may enjoy being stepped back up in trip and may have found the ground on the quick side last time but he, also, looks to have something to find with Poppy Seed.
