Verdict

Supernoverre will be popular in this four-runner affair but we will chance SPECIAL BOND, while True Britannia should therefore not be far away. The latter finished a little over three lengths to the good of the selection over 9f in a Wolverhampton claimer last time and is now only 2lbs worse off. Strictly on the book she should confirm that form, but she is taken on on grounds of stamina over the longer trip today. Special Bond does get this trip, as evidenced by his Kempton run last month, and he has now dropped to a more attractive mark of 65. He should be able to cope with that, he has first-time headgear on as an extra positive, and he ran better than his placing suggested last time. Supernoverre won over this distance in a Kempton claimer in November but is now 2lbs higher than when beaten on his handicap debut back at that track shortly after. However, he may still be capable of further improvement and is much respected. Black N Brew probably needs a drop in the weights before winning, but this new trip might bring out the best in him and market support would be interesting. Without that knowledge we will side with Special Bond.

Formwatch

Supernoverre (IRE) 11-2 (9-7) Prominent, driven along 2f out, went 2nd over 1f out, no chance with winner, 2nd of 13, 3 1/2l behind Herschel (9-4) at Kempton 1m 1f 2yo hcp (5) pol in Nov.

Black N Brew (USA) 10-1 (8-12) Chased leaders, effort on inside over 2f out, challenging when hampered on rail approaching final furlong, stayed on same pace after, 4th of 10, 3l behind Holberg (9-7) at Kempton 1m 2yo hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Dec.

Special Bond 11-4 (8-9) In touch, challenged 2f out, ridden and hung left over 1f out, hampered and carried right entering final furlong, weakened towards finish, 6th of 9, 3 1/2l behind Mullitovermaurice (8-3) at W'hampton 1m 1f 2yo clm (6) pol in Dec.

True Britannia 4-1 (8-0) Led early, always prominent, every chance well inside final furlong, kept on, 3rd of 9, 1/2l behind Mullitovermaurice (8-3) at W'hampton 1m 1f 2yo clm (6) pol in Dec.
