A poor contest to conclude proceedings and we'll take AVOCA DANCER to win it for Gay Kelleway, while Joss Stick and Loyal Royal can also go well. The selection has dropped back to a decent mark after three efforts that might diplomatically be described as moderate. The mare won off 1lb lower on turf last summer, races over her optimum trip today, and the yard had a winner the other day so could be coming back into form. Joss Stick represents another trainer going well in Ron Harris, and the gelding has a course win to his name. However, this trip seems to stretch him a bit far at present and so we will take him on. Loyal Royal held off Cavalry Guard to win here over 7f last time, but a 5lb rise in the weights and the furlong shorter trip mean he looks opposable this time. Compton Classic is 12lbs lower than when winning an Ayr handicap in the summer of 2007, but he has been on the slide since and would not be one to lump on, even in this lowly fayre. Simpsons Gamble loves it here and is entitled to go close on his best recent form, but he perhaps just has a tad too much weight and we prefer Avoca Dancer in the last.
