In depth

Verdict

Nearly A Fool appreciated the drop into selling company when scoring at Southwell last week and, while this looks a more competitive event, Alan Bailey's gelding won with something in hand there and should be able to follow up here. Andrew Balding is still looking for his first winner since taking over from father Ian and, unless Easter Ogil can reproduce something like his best form, that is unlikely to change with this contest. Night Cap has lost his way since leaving the stable of Sir Mark Prescott. A Woman In Love has claims on the form shown when scoring here last month but she ran disappointingly over course and distance on Tuesday when favourite for a better race than this. Brooke Sanders' filly has been inconsistent in the past and is not one to rely on heavily. Wolverhampton winner Sal's Gal would go close if able to reproduce Fibresand form on the Polytrack, a comment that also applies to Ian Wood's Telori. Days Of Grace is consistent but tends to find at least one too good, while Oases (well treated on his best) showed his first worthwhile form behind Golden Brief here last time. The unexposed Volcanic is open to more improvement than most but we are happy to stick with Alan Bailey's horse, who looks on the upgrade.
