Verdict

SILENT ACT can defy top weight by beating Filun in an interesting close to the card. Our selection has the assistance of Richard Hughes in the saddle for the first time as she bids to continue a run of fine form. He could be the answer to the problems she's had settling lately and if the maestro rider can get her switched off she'll be very hard to beat. Filun is a better horse on artificial surfaces but he showed when beaten a short-head at Warwick earlier on this term that there are turf races in him. Richard Rowe's return to the plate could be seen as a positive as the pair have gone well both times they've combined and he's on a nice mark in relation to his all-weather rating. Gamedor hasn't been seen since running over timber 137 days ago but he was prolific on the level in France and is in good hands, Merrymadcap is 3lbs lower than when winning on the turf last summer while Barliffey has had excuses the last twice and the support he's attracted promises plenty. Dove Cottage is out of sorts but that's reflected in his mark, some 7lbs below when he last won, however Silent Act is progressive and has little to fear from these.
